Do Things that Take Awhile | Monday Musings

I think I have always been a pretty introspective person, but I know I have become even more so after beginning to work from home full-time. All the silence around me gives time and space to think in between the work I have to get done, and I end up reflecting a lot on myself and the world around me. Monday Musings has become my space to share what I've been learning, and for those of you who have followed from the beginning, I'm sure you've seen my heart and mind molded slowly over time.

One thing I've noticed this year, more than ever, is the effect my phone has on me. I have taken some measures to reduce its impact. Right now I check social media twice a day only, and oftentimes when I'm working I'll put my phone on silent. I try to refrain from answering texts or emails while I'm spending intentional time with Nathan, though this is an area where I need to try a little harder.

Having a phone has led to a much shorter attention span, for me and everyone around me...

Excitement. It was written all over Jen's face all morning as she anticipated what the rest of the wedding day would hold. She couldn't stop from smiling as she opened her gift from Doug and wiped the tears away, or as she slipped into her wedding gown, or as she began to walk down the aisle toward her groom. Jen's laughter is one of her best features, and all day long it rang out as she celebrated the most joyful day of her life.

Doug and Jen are deeply committed to one another, and it showed throughout their day. Two pastors spoke during the ceremony - one who Doug has known from childhood and one who became important to them as they met and began to date at their church's small group. The best man told stories of how deeply Jen would listen whenever Doug taught the lesson, and the maid of honor recounted how much stronger Jen and Doug are together than they were before they became one.

Stormy weather threatened all week long..

Jen is someone whose natural laugh will make you smile - and she laughs all the time! She is beautiful, as evidenced by her gorgeous bridal portraits, but her heart is pure gold. As a teacher at Summit Christian Academy, she takes care of her students all throughout the year, putting their needs above her own. As a newly-married wife she is constantly looking out for Doug above herself. Jen is the kind of person whose beauty truly glows from the inside out!

We met a few weeks ago, on the cusp of her wedding day, in quaint Historic Yorktown. With glowy light and adorable houses in the background we walked from one place to another, capturing these still moments before she would be married to Doug. Her excitement was evident and her laugh was genuine. I can't wait to share her wedding images soon but until then, here she is, beautiful smile and all!
