Best of Ring Shots 2017 | Business

Every year I try to challenge myself in at least one area, knowing that if I am not actively trying to get better it will never happen. This was the year of the ring shot, and I tried my best both to become more creative (even at weddings with limited time) and more consistent, finding a style that I love.

While this is an area I always want to work to improve, I am proud of my work as I look back on the last year. There were times when I had ZERO time to showcase the ring well, yet in the back of my head I knew I would be disappointed if I didn't give it my all. Ring shots are NOT the most important images of the day, but wedding rings represent such an important covenant I think it's incredibly important to have at least a few stunning images of this symbol.

So here, in all their sparkly glory, are the rings that made 2017 so great, whether during engagement sessions or weddings. Get ready for some major bling!

I always tell couples that one of the best ways to have the best wedding day portraits possible is by booking an engagement session ahead of time. This allows me to get to know the couple as they are together, relaxed, with no timelines or stress involves. It also gives them practice, since most people (myself included!) aren't used to having professional pictures taken. On top of that, while pictures in a white fluffy dress are completely necessary and absolutely beautiful, I love that engagement sessions give couples portraits of how they really look and act on a daily basis, pictures that will allow them to celebrate such a special time for years to come.

This year's engagement and couples portraits have taken me all over Hampton Roads and beyond. I spent a LOT of time in Colonial Williamsburg and Fort Monroe, with visits to Virginia Beach, Alexandria, and Richmond on top of that. Each picture with a corresponding blog post is linked so if you want to see more from a particular session, click away!

In the meantime, enjoy the love and laughter from couples who are on the verge of being married or are just celebrating life together. Here's to a joy-filled 2017...I can't wait for what next year holds!

Colonial Williamsburg Fall Engagement Session | Williamsburg Wedding Photographer | Heath + Kate

Heath and Kate are both in the middle of huge transitions in their lives. Kate is moving, they have begun new careers, and of course, they are now planning both the wedding day and their marriage. One of the most important elements of staying sane during such big changes is maintaining a good sense of humor, and these two have done just that. From the first moment to the last kiss, both of them were laughing with each other in one glorious afternoon away from all that is happening in the 'real world.'

Colonial Williamsburg is the place in Hampton Roads most reminiscent of Charleston, the city they now both call home where they will be married in March. The fall colors were gorgeous, the plantation-style houses were elegant, and the sun set behind the trees in a beautiful way. It was the perfect time and the perfect place for Heath and Kate to celebrate their engagement and all that is to come. To say they are excited to begin their lives together is an understatement - can you tell by the smiles on their faces?! - and I know that day, and for many years to come, laughter and joy will be a huge part of their relationship...
