My New Role at Tidewater & Tulle | Monday Musings

I feel like I need to say, "welcome back" to myself! I just returned from a whirlwind 10-day trip to West Africa. I'll write plenty more on that later, but today I have a brief but exciting announcement to make.

One thing I have realized through photography is that I love more than just taking pictures. By writing on this blog and sharing my heart, I have seen how much I love writing. I kind of took it for granted that it came easily to me, but I know that one of the skills God has given me is writing in this little blogspace for the time being. I've been guilty of jealousy about the talents I see others possessing, but last year I learned that writing is one of mine. And I love it ...

How to Set Goals | Business

Well, it’s that time of year again. The old is going out, and the new is coming in. January feels like a fresh start, whether or not the month is actually different from any other time. I’m not necessarily a New Years resolution kind of person, but I do believe in setting goals for myself, and this is the perfect time to think about what I want to do in 2016.

The problem is that I often get stumped. I stare at a blank Word document and just try to make things up, which often results in either an unrealistic goal or one I really don’t want to achieve. By the time it’s March I’ve forgotten about the goals I set my mind to, because they weren’t that near and dear to me in the first place...

Behind the Scenes in 2015 | Business

Behind the Scenes in 2015 | Business

A wedding day is kind of a crazy thing. In approximately 8 hours, Nathan and I witness everything from hair and makeup to sparkler exits, with two little things called the ceremony and reception in between. In addition, there are bridal party portraits, bride and groom portraits, and the ever-stressful-but-necessary family portraits.

Thankfully, we have a system that helps us work together to efficiently and creatively capture each moment. When Nathan started photographing weddings with me one year ago (yay!), part of that system is trying to get pictures of each other…often with amusing results :) This translates into Nathan getting in-action pictures of me working, and me getting pictures of my sweet and unsuspecting husband in between poses so I can test light or otherwise get a hilarious picture of him.

So while most behind the scenes blogs will usually show the main photographer, mine will showcase both of us in a whole new light. Many thanks to Nathan for all the somewhat flattering photos of me…and even more thanks for being the unwitting subject of my new favorite blog ;)
