Behind the Scenes in 2016 | Business

Every job has a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make the more public part flow smoothly. Wedding photographers take beautiful pictures but on the wedding day we become so much more. Looking back through the past year is a hilarious reminder of all the different roles I take on a wedding day - and all the fun I've had to boot!

I've been so fortunate for Nathan to accompany me at most of my weddings this year, and I think at some point we started a friendly competition to take the most ridiculous pictures of each other possible. Combine that with the wall of exhaustion that comes rushing in after hours of constant thinking, moving, talking, and shooting, and the end results have me cracking up as I finish out the year.

Have fun - and a good laugh on us - looking through our official 2016 behind the scenes pictures!

What a lot of you see on my blog is the big things that happen in my life and business. What most of you don't get to see is most of the behind-the-scenes events that have to take place in order for the big stuff to run smoothly. A couple weeks ago I got the incredible opportunity to travel to Nashville for a gorgeous wedding...but what I didn't talk about was the logistics of actually getting there and back!

When I first booked the wedding we talked about making it into a long weekend and an extra little vacation to wrap up the year. However, things changed when Nathan got a new job just six weeks before the wedding was scheduled...

Shooting a wedding in Nashville, Tennessee, was the best way I could think of to wrap up the 2016 season, and there’s no couple I would rather have traveled so far for as Jon and Shannon. Nathan and I have known Jon for years, and I remember when Shannon first entered into his life. He told me after a few months of dating her that when they got married, he wanted me to be his wedding photographer. As excited as I was for him at the time, it felt like a dream that I actually got to be there on their most special day.

As well as I know Jon, I know that he and Shannon are a perfect match for each other. They met at Union College in Nashville and bonded over their mutual love for music and the Lord. Her feisty personality and his uniquely hilarious sense of humor saw them through several years and many ups and downs as he moved to another state to pursue his future bride. Together at last, Jon and Shannon could not keep the joy off their faces as they became husband and wife.

The Musician's Hall of Fame was the perfect setting for a reception blanketed in twinkling lights, evergreen wreaths to celebrate the winter season, and candles that lit the entire hall in glowy yellow light. Crimson bridesmaid dresses and classic bowties tied the whole day together perfectly, and a sweet heartfelt ceremony with a shared communion in the middle was a reminder of the true purpose behind the wedding...
