Well, we did it! It's hard to believe, but less than a week ago we held out very first Hampton Roads DIY Bride Workshop. I previously introduced what the workshop was in this post, and on Saturday all our plans came to fruition.
We met our lovely brides-to-be at The Starving Artist Studio in Port Warwick, one of my favorite places in Newport News. With some snacks in hand and worksheets in front of them, the workshop began. Jackie kicked us off with an incredible walk-through of how to build a wedding budget, complete with a sheet that broke down how much brides should spend on each wedding vendor. After that, she talked through a wedding planning timeline, from when to send out save the dates to what you should be doing 2 weeks prior to your wedding.
We took a short break and walked over to Blush Bridal, where the ladies there showed our brides examples of different dress silhouettes, let them try on veils, and made appointments with several ladies to have their first dress fitting! Next, I walked the ladies through an actual wedding timeline, and making the most of each minute on their big day.
The last two ladies were phenomenal. Jami had put together a bridal survival kit, with all the things you may need or want on your wedding day that you may not have remembered - it was extremely practical and absolutely hilarious! Finally, Luciana had put together the cutest do-it-yourself box for the ladies to ask their bridesmaids to be a part of their wedding, complete with streamers, colored rock sugar, and nail polish. We ended with a panel of brides who have been through the wedding process before, and the engaged ladies got to ask them what they would have done differently - or any question that popped into their heads!
To finish it all off, we headed over to Scratch Bakery and heard from a manager about what it takes to enjoy a tasting, as well as the different types of cakes. Each lady also got to dive into a sample of their amazing cakes - and if you haven't tried them before, you're missing out!
The morning flew by, but by the end I was so full of energy and excitement from interacting with the brides-to-be that I could have talked with them for hours. Each one was so sweet and has wonderful plans to make their wedding day their own. As they continued to sample and talk over red velvet cake samples, I began to be even more excited for our next workshop on October 17. Hampton Roads brides - this is a workshop that will save you time and money, and beyond that give you some fun and relaxation during a busy season of your life. You can even bring your maid of honor, best friend, or future husband! If you're interested in learning more, click here. I hope you can join us!
