Smithfield Winery Wedding | Smithfield Wedding Photographer | John + Lauren

John and Lauren are two wonderful individuals, but together they clearly make each other better. Both were a little nervous as they got ready to see each other one one of the prettiest days of the year, but their expressions and excitement at the first look were all worth the wait. They instantly relaxed, completely confident in their choice of their forever partner. Lauren’s smile could not have been bigger, and John treated her like the princess she is all day long.

The Smithfield Winery is one of the best wedding venues in Hampton Roads. The modern but rustic interior makes everything and everyone look instantly gorgeous, and beautiful natural light flows in from all angles. Everly After Events made the space absolutely perfect, with elegant florals, copper chargers, and cute little touches like a fun DIY photobooth and dog treat bags for guests with furry family members at home. If the day was beautiful the night was even more so, twinkle lights and all. Customized donuts and a harpist who played some of the prettiest wedding music I’ve heard were just the cherry on top of a stunning and memorable day…

Our First Foster Placement | Personal

Our First Foster Placement | Personal

It was a weird night to begin with. Willow, who consistently goes down around 7:45, wouldn’t stop crying. She wasn’t sick or teething and there was nothing ‘wrong’ - she was just wide awake. We both went in countless times over the course of an hour to comfort her, and finally we gave up and just got her out of bed. She toddled around the living room, completely exhausted and very uncoordinated, but still not wanting to go to sleep. It wasn’t until about 9:45 that we finally put her back in bed and, after a little crying, she gave up.

Not 5 minutes later my phone started buzzing and I saw it was our social worker. I quickly showed Nathan and we knew what it meant - a placement call was coming. It wasn’t our first call, but it was definitely later than we expected!

She explained the situation to us. There was a middle school aged boy who needed a home for just one night. We were the last people she called, since we had decided during the process that the oldest child we would be open to right now is elementary school aged. This is for a lot of different reasons which I won’t get into here, but she knew she was asking a bit more of us than she wanted…

Sam and Lacey got married less than 3 years ago, and it was an absolute honor to photograph their elopement at the Virginia Beach courthouse. Meeting them again with a little girl due in less than a month was such a joy - and so surreal! A lot of my brides have started to grow their families within the last year, which makes me feel extremely proud (and a little old, if we’re being honest).

Marriage has been so good to Sam and Lacey. They are settled into their home and have wanted a child of their own for a long time. Yet they are still the same relaxed, fun-loving couple they were just a few years ago when they said I do. Their relationship today is clearly so much stronger than it was on their wedding day, and I know it will continue to grow by leaps and bounds…
