Recovering from Surgery | Personal

This Christmas was a strange one for me. The month of December was our busiest yet, but not because we agreed to lots of holiday parties and extra things that we regretted later. It was a series of unavoidable events, from a wedding to a trip to Texas and my sister's college graduation. While we loved each one for different reasons, it was all a little too much - especially with a 6-month old baby and the prospect of my tonsillectomy looming the day after Christmas.

Because I had surgery the next day, our holiday felt very short, but it was the best time to schedule what my surgeon told me would be 'two weeks of misery.' My mom and mother-in-law both had some time off, Nathan could take some vacation after the holidays, and my next wedding would happen just over a month later. I just knew I would be up and mostly back to normal in a week anyway, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal...

I always tell couples that one of the best ways to have the best wedding day portraits possible is by booking an engagement session ahead of time. This allows me to get to know the couple as they are together, relaxed, with no timelines or stress involves. It also gives them practice, since most people (myself included!) aren't used to having professional pictures taken. On top of that, while pictures in a white fluffy dress are completely necessary and absolutely beautiful, I love that engagement sessions give couples portraits of how they really look and act on a daily basis, pictures that will allow them to celebrate such a special time for years to come.

This year's engagement and couples portraits have taken me all over Hampton Roads and beyond. I spent a LOT of time in Colonial Williamsburg and Fort Monroe, with visits to Virginia Beach, Alexandria, and Richmond on top of that. Each picture with a corresponding blog post is linked so if you want to see more from a particular session, click away!

In the meantime, enjoy the love and laughter from couples who are on the verge of being married or are just celebrating life together. Here's to a joy-filled 2017...I can't wait for what next year holds!

My Goofiest Moments Behind the Scenes | Business

Oh yes. This has to be one of my favorite blogs of the whole year. You see, all year long at weddings, Nathan and I try to have FUN. If we are working hard and having a good time, it will be obvious to each bride and groom. We want our marriage to be a model for newlyweds, and one of the ways we can do this is by enjoying each other while doing our job. So, in the midst of photographing pretty details and posing the bridal party, we are constantly trying to catch each other in the silliness of the wedding day!

While Nathan is great at getting pictures of me in action, I think I'm pretty great at getting pictures of him acting ridiculous, especially by the time the reception rolls around. If you can't tell, we have SO much fun with each other...and we love this job! Enjoy a few laughs at our expense and get excited for what next year holds...
