It's hard to write about a session that is so near and dear to my heart. Chelsea (of Chelsea Anderson Photography) is one of my best friends in the area. We've known each other since college, although we should've met in high school since we lived in the same city! When I found out a few years ago that she was moving from Northern Virginia to Norfolk, I was overjoyed...I never knew what our friendship would become.

I could say (and have said) so many things about how amazing Chelsea is, and how near and dear she and Scott are to me and Nathan. We have laughed together, cried together, supported, encouraged, cheered each other on, and not let the fact that we are photographers in the same city change our relationship one iota...

Best of 2015: Families | Business

Best of 2015: Families | Business

As I’ve continued to progress in wedding photography, I have asked myself the question of whether or not to continue taking on families. This year was the deciding year for me, as I see so many photographers who only do one thing or the other. However, after a year of getting to know such wonderful people during family sessions, I have firmly decided to continue as both a wedding and family photographer in 2016. And for that, I am excited!

This year brought a huge variety of families – from a couple that has been married over 30 years with kids who have graduated college and a grandkid on the way to a family whose youngest just turned one year old. Truth be told, I love both of these groups and all those in-between. I’m so fortunate that the kindest people have come across my path, and I look forward to meeting many more in the new year.

I just love it when a client returns and I get to see them through different phases in their lives! Last year I got to photograph Dawn and her boys, knowing she was expecting to add some pink to the family soon. When I met them in Sandy Bottom Park, I finally got to say hi to their adorable little Ginny Bell. And oh what a sweetie she is!

I love this beautiful little family of four, and I especially love that giant pink bow on their little girl's head. When I think of photographing families, this is what it's all about - seeing growth, transition, seeing new little lives added, and seeing young kids grow up and get to be so big. Jesse and Dawn - I'm so thankful that you've allowed me into your lives on these few occasions! I can't wait to see all four of you again next year :)
