I'm Proud of Him | Monday Musings

Today is a BIG day - but it doesn't have much to do with me at all! Today Nathan begins a new job, a new journey, the next step in wherever we are headed. When he first graduated from college he did it with a job offer in hand, spending 5 years working at the first company before moving on to his most recent place of employment.

He went from engineer to IT specialist, transitioning into a completely new environment seamlessly. Nathan is not someone who sits back and lets life or jobs happen to him. Even though he was in a completely different career field he immediately jumped in with both feet. In addition to working hard at work, he pursued and researched difference certifications and information, becoming engrossed in the area where he served. From the very start he was determined to be the best he could be not just at checking off his daily to-do list, but going far beyond that.

Ultimately, his heart was always in engineering...

Why We Slow Dance at Every Wedding | Monday Musings

"Last Saturday I photographed a wedding with my husband." Truth be told, I have said that sentence many times over the past couple of years! While other couples and families are watching college football or going to the farmer's market, Nathan and I are usually on our way to a wedding in Hampton Roads or, as of late, traveling up and down the East Coast for the weekend. Of course we can get tired during such a busy time, but we love it - and mostly we love working together.

Having Nathan by my side on wedding days has been such a big game changer in my business. I wrote about our roles at a wedding in a long blog post here, but this one is a little bit more personal. It's how we remember to keep each other first in the midst of the craziness of wedding timelines and very long days that leave us absolutely wiped out the day after - and sometimes even farther than that...

We Got Hit by a Dump Truck | Monday Musings

A little over a week ago I got up, packed the car, and picked up Nathan so we could head to Philadelphia. We drove on a Friday so we could get there early, and also because DJ and Sam had very kindly invited us to their rehearsal dinner as guests to thank us for coming. I am very vigilant about leaving WAY earlier than is necessary just in case traffic happens, so we headed out around noon and gave ourselves 7 hours for a 5 hour drive...never in a million years thinking it would take that long.

Traffic didn't hit until we got on I-295 going north past DC, and then everything came to a dead standstill. Cars were crawling forward, changing lanes was nearly impossible, and drivers everywhere looked incredibly frustrated with what was going on. Thankfully for me, Nathan was driving which meant that I could relax and just ignore the traffic, knowing we had left early enough to get there in time. I called my mom and we started to chat for a few minutes.

Out of nowhere there was a big impact on the rear driver's side of the car...
