My Newest Addition to the (Lens) Family | Business

The farther I get into my business (it's been over 5 years now!), the fewer equipment purchases I need to make. I have a great list of reliable and high-quality gear, so adding to the arsenal comes slower than it did at the beginning when I was first purchasing and upgrading everything. Last year was the year of lighting equipment, but this has become the year of the 24mm lens - and I am officially obsessed!

Honestly, it's hard for me to justify buying anything, whether personally or in my businessโ€ฆ

How I Organize My Online Life | Business

One thing I did not anticipate when I started a business was how much of my life would be spent online over the next 5+ years (and I can't believe it's been that long!). Between emails, my website, blogging, and of course social media, sometimes it feels like I have way too much to juggle. There was a time over the course of last year that I kept waiting for the ball to drop on SOMETHING.

Thankfully, at least as far as I know, it never did. That was more due to the fact that I realized I needed help than my ability to multitask or keep everything together every minute of the day - especially after Willow entered into my life and the workday changed forever. I thought about paying for an assistant or looking at different solutions for a long time before I took the leap and once I did, I never looked backโ€ฆ

Introducing the NEWEST Team Member! | Business

I never thought I would say this about myself, but I like working alone. I thrive when I can make my schedule, decide my task list, and check it off when and where I want to. Before Willow came I worked all over Hampton Roads, from one coffee shop to the next, and now that she's here the flexibility I have is a beautiful thing and what I always dreamed of. I never factored other people into my business and always thought I would run this by myself.

Over the years I have seen many other solopreneurs bring on part-time team members to do everything from social media to blogging to editing images and everything in between. I was curious how it worked and began to envision myself hiring someone in the future as my business grew. The only thing I came back to, though, time and time again, was that if I were to hire anyone I would want it to be in my family. I didn't know how this would work or when and if it would happen, but I hoped the time would comeโ€ฆ
