I've talked before about my normal morning routine - up at 5:15am, visiting the gym, reading my Bible, then getting the work day started - but I've never mentioned one of the most important parts of starting off my day right: BREAKFAST. I am not one of those people who is able to skip breakfast at will. If I don't wake up hungry I will be soon, and as soon as I get back from working out I start in on making something yummy to kick off the morning.
The problem is, I often get stuck in a rut. It's not hard for me to make the same smoothie every single day of the week. While I don't think there's anything wrong with this (after all, it's healthy and I love it!) I've been wanting to change things up a bit. After I was gifted a little extra from a job I finished, I splurged on a couple breakfast treats and signed up for a week of Daily Harvest.
The other part of my morning routine? Coffee. I don't drink it for the caffeine because I have to get decaf, but I do drink it for the good taste and all the warmth - especially in the winter when I am cold all. day. long. In the last year I've discovered that my stomach is not a fan of dairy, but I'm also not one of those people who can drink her coffee black. I did some research on alternatives to milk in my coffee that are sugar free and found very few options - one of those being Nutpods! So without further ado, here's what I thought about my experiment with dairy free creamer and Daily Harvest smoothies.
Nutpods
We'll start with the good, since I'm a positive person :) I am a new fan of this little creamer pouch! I hate the long list of artificial ingredients in so many creamers, and while I love plain old milk in my coffee, Nutpods took it to a new level. The liquid itself is incredibly creamy, much thicker than milk, and I only needed a small amount to perfect my morning cup. I will mention that it does have a very distinct flavor that took a little getting used to, but after a couple days I started to love the nuttiness that it added. While the cost will unfortunately keep me from always having these on hand, I will definitely buy them again!
Daily Harvest
And now...the not so good. Before I subscribed to these I looked around for an honest review, and I only found a couple - who were paid for a sponsored post and very much put a positive spin on the whole thing. Overall, I was horrendously disappointed with these smoothies.
First of all, each smoothie costs about $8. I did not pay that much since I got an introductory offer, but I felt like I had overpaid even though it cost about half the regular price. Secondly, I didn't really like the smoothies! There was one I was obsessed with and would drink over and over again (their version of mint chocolate chip), but none of the others were sweet at all. I never use sweetener in my smoothies besides fruit, and I appreciate that there were no artificial ingredients, but a little extra banana or something else would have made these actually taste good. I ended up adding some protein powder sweetened with stevia to make them taste remotely good, and the whole time I drank them I couldn't believe how expensive they would normally be.
On top of that, I eat a lot. Probably more than the average person. But with such a high price tag, I didn't even get full for breakfast and had to supplement. $8/smoothie PLUS the cost of an egg or something else on the side? No, thank you! I jumped in hoping to treat myself on the rarest of occasions and recommend these to others, but I will be doing neither one!
And there you have it! My completely honest unfiltered review of a creamer I love and smoothies that were a big disappointment. Let me know what you think of either one - or if there's something else I should try! - in the comments below!
