It’s been a strange season of life for a lot of people, but when I think about handling the unexpected, those who are pregnant and giving birth right now always come to my mind. Of course, this is probably because my little sister Megan is expecting a baby boy at the end of August, and this pregnancy has come with far more ups and downs than is usual to say the least! She and Josiah, her husband of just over two years, have handled the changes with grace and hope. They have been understandably disappointed in some areas without denying their feelings, and yet their faith in God and their unity in marriage has never been more evident, either.
The last time I saw these two was in December, and while we found out later she was technically pregnant at the time, none of us knew that - including Megan and Josiah! So when she finally pulled up to my parents’ house last weekend with her growing belly and the pregnancy glow, all of it seemed very surreal. We planned to take some maternity pictures during our too-short time together, and Historic Polegreen Church in Richmond seemed like the perfect place - open to the public, yet with wide enough areas that we could safely take pictures.
On Sunday morning, not a person was in sight as we walked around these historic grounds in a place I have dreamed of visiting to photograph forever, and the sun peeked through the clouds and over the trees at all the perfect times. What a joy it is to watch these two become parents, and to document this special and very unique time in their lives. I can’t wait to meet my little nephew and thank God for the gift of his life!
