Last weekend I got to do something I had not done since the holidays: visit my parents! Even though they live about 4 hours away, we both keep busy schedules, so sometimes it's hard to block out a whole weekend, but it's always worth it. My younger sister will be graduating from high school next time I see her, which is insane, so it was nice to spend some quality downtime with them before the craziness of family and graduation and college sets in this summer and fall.
On Saturday, we headed to the Dogwood Festival in a nearby town, which was a lot of fun. They had street vendors, lots of pretty trees, and some live entertainment. Of course, the best part was meeting little Cricket, the miniature poodle, which you'll see in some pictures below. She was a sweetheart! There was a petting zoo with alpacas, a mini pig, a miniature horse (Li'l Sebastian anyone?!), and some other tiny animals. Mainly, I think petting zoos have decided that if an animal is small, it is worth having.
A lot of the weekend consisted of eating delicious meals! My mom is an amazing cook and whipped out some extra fancy things. Saturday we went to a restaurant called Shishka and ate THE best hummus we ever had. And if you don't know, I am kind of a hummus fanatic. That evening, we celebrated Nathan's upcoming birthday with a divine homemade chocolate cake. Oh man...yummy!
I'm trying to make it a point to take a lot more pictures of my family! We hardly ever get pictures while we're hanging out, which is sad. We finally took a few photos over Christmas, but I made sure to snag some this weekend so we can remember all the good times. I'm so thankful for such a great family, and for getting to spend some time with them last weekend. I always leave feeling refreshed, renewed, and ready for the week ahead. I love you guys (including those that couldn't be there)!
