All About the New Gear! // Spady Sunday

I’ve been waiting for so long to be able to write a blog about my new camera – mostly because I’ve been saving up for it for awhile! I got my D800 on Wednesday, to replace my D7000. Nikon, of course…

For camera nerds, it’s my first full-frame camera. For non-camera nerds, or most of you who read this blog, my D800 will allow me to do so much more. Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE my D7000, and it’s an awesome camera. I’ve done way more with it than I ever thought I could, and I’m keeping my buddy around as a backup camera body for wedding days. It has its weaknesses, but overall it’s a fantastic camera that I’m so grateful I’ve been able to use, and keep.

But, with growth in my business comes new equipment, which is one of the most exciting parts of being a photographer :) Big highlights of the D800 are that I can push up the ISO a lot more, which means I can work better in low light situations without the picture turning out really grainy. The lenses that fit my new camera have better glass and sensors. The color is going to be more vibrant, the picture sharper, and the potential for what I can do is out of this world.

I’m so excited about this switch, because it just allows me to serve my clients that much better. I’m a huge proponent of buying what you can and what you practically need. I absolutely did not need such a nice camera when I first started out, and I never went in debt for any of my cameras, my lenses, my flash, even my computer. I would not have bought anything I’d not saved for. But there’s something to be said for having top-of-the-line equipment, which I do now.

I feel like, after the upgrade, my equipment matches my training. Besides graduating from the New York Institute of Photography, I’ve put countless hours of research, training, and SO much practice into my growth. It’s exciting to be able to grow and learn and have my equipment grow with me.

This might not be THE most exciting blog in the world, but I couldn’t not share about how excited I am for this change. I’m going to practice like crazy during the off-season, and I can’t wait to show you the results of upgrades and hard work come wedding season (which begins for me, right now anyways, in March)!

Happy Sunday everyone! Enjoy a sneak peek from Fox Hole Kingdom's weekend gig!
