One thing I love about my brides this year especially is that they come from all different walks of life. Brad and Jessica have been dating for years - since high school, in fact - and are finally tying the knot come February. Jessica is a hard-working nurse with a bright laugh and one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen. Brad loves fishing, his German shepherd, and most of all, he loves Jessica.

Between the two of them, they couldn't stop smiling on the most gorgeous day in May at Windsor Castle Park. From the glowy sunset to the fishing pole Brad carefully chose (yes, it even matches their outfits!), the evening could not have been more perfect. Everyone tells me they're nervous before they start their first session, but Brad and Jessica handled being in front of the camera with ease. They were simply a joy to be with, both as individuals and the amazing couple they've become.

Brad and Jessica - I'm so excited for the next big step in your journey! (And Brad - I'm so glad you actually MADE it to the engagement session after your kayaking 'adventure') Thank you so much for being genuine and real towards me and each other. Your love for each other is evident in every picture, and I'm so excited for your wedding in February. It's going to be beautiful!

Pernell & Maggie // Downtown Smithfield Engagement Photographer

We had been excitedly talking about this engagement session for weeks, and the day finally came on a cool evening in the end of March. Maggie's week was one for the books - between managing a classroom of kindergartners and a nasty fall, she had every reason to be tired at the end of a few very long days. Yet when Pernell and Maggie arrived, they were filled with joy that bubbled over into every laugh, every smile, and every moment of their session.

Their personalities shone in a whole new light. Maggie is easygoing and natural, while Pernell is goofy and fun loving. He kept her laughing the whole time, and yet shared a few quiet moments in between the jokes and giggles. As we walked around Windsor Castle Park and downtown Smithfield, it quickly became evident why the two of them are inseparable. They started as friends, but their love has grown, and in just over a month they will finally be married.

Pernell and Maggie - you two are awesome! I laughed so hard, and enjoyed every minute of our time together. Thank you for all the jokes, all the funny quotes that I'll remember forever, and for your excitement throughout the day. May is going to be beautiful, and I just can't wait.

I have LITERALLY been looking forward to this post the whole year (Parks & Rec, anyone?). With each portrait session and wedding, I've become a stronger, more confident photographer who can deliver better images. I'll be honest - launching my business was terrifying! And really, it still is. I get nervous before each portrait session, and before each wedding, and every time I get a new inquiry...the list goes on. I've realized, though, that I'm not nervous because I'm afraid I can't deliver stunning images. It's because I want to get better each time I click the shutter, and I want each of you to see that progress.

I know I can tell my improvement throughout the year, and I hope you can, too. I'm excited for 2014 and all that it will bring. Have a wonderful New Year and enjoy some of my favorites from 2013!
