Cape Henry Lighthouse Engagement Session | Tim + Naomi

Cape Henry Lighthouse Engagement Session | Tim + Naomi

Tim and Naomi met at a wedding about three years ago, and after their first date they never looked back. They have already traveled the world together, from Dubai to Wisconsin and everywhere in between, but Virginia Beach is where their love grew, and where they realized they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Over Thanksgiving they visited her family, he proposed, and of course she said yes.

Their excitement was so obvious from the first moment I met them. Naomi had reserved the Cape Henry Lighthouse, which is newly renovated, and we had the place all to ourselves! It was a fun challenge to shoot in a tiny space surrounded by windows, and I love that their engagement pictures are truly unique. Afterwards we caught the Spanish moss and golden light at First Landing. The weather was perfect and it was an unforgettable day…

How do I narrow down my favorite portraits of the year when I’ve had so many beautiful couples and families in front of my lens? The answer is that it’s not easy, but there were a few things that stood out to me as I looked back on the year.

The first is joy. Each person here is expressing joy at being together, getting married, growing their family, or simply being a family. The laughter and emotion feels so real, even through the screen. These are some of the most joyful people on earth, and it was my privilege to capture some of the best days of their lives - with many more yet to come.

The other thing that stands out to me is…

First Landing State Park Engagement | Virginia Beach Wedding Photograher | Trey + Kristina

When we picked a date for Trey and Kristina's engagement session, we had no idea it would be the HOTTEST day of the year so far - and, in classic Hampton Roads style, the humidity was almost overwhelming! I was expecting a request to reschedule but instead these two showed up, all smiles, ready to rock the evening and prepared for lots of snuggles despite the weather. And it was all worth it, because when a classic Virginia Beach storm rolled into the sky, we not only avoided getting rained on but got some epic portraits to end the evening as well!

First Landing State Park is one of my favorite places to visit. Between the Spanish moss, the dreamy light, and easy access to a beach right across the way, there's such a variety of beautiful locations for any engagement session. Kristina, equally obsessed with these details, also picked the perfect outfits for both locations, which isn't always easy to do!
