I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know Kiara at our very first DIY Bride workshop just a few months ago. She came ready to get some ideas about her big day – she hadn’t set a date yet, but she was engaged and knew that the day would soon be coming. I was struck by her gentle enthusiasm and her shy smile, and I knew that this would not be the end of our friendship!

Thankfully I was right, and just a few months later I met her and Clifton on Freemason Street in downtown Norfolk for their engagement session, because they had officially set their wedding date for next September! Meeting Kiara’s other half completed the puzzle for me – where Kiara is quiet and reserved, Clifton is excited and enthusiastic. He knew just how to make her laugh, and from the moment we began I knew he was thrilled not only to take their engagement pictures, but to finally be married to the love of his life.

Top 10 Best Places in Hampton Roads for Family & Couple Portraits // Business

I hope this blog post is helpful to anyone looking to take family pictures, anniversary portraits, or 'just because' pictures! I will clarify that these are MY top ten places (so far), and I know there are a whole lot more out there that are beautiful! I'll list a few more at the bottom that I know of, but these are definitely my favorite.

Sometimes the biggest hurdle when booking a session is deciding WHERE to take your pictures! It's hard to decide what places are the best for your family, while still being great for lighting and photography. At the same time, you don't want to just go to all the same places you've been to before.

I'm sure I'll update and expand this list as I go, but for now I'm limiting it to the ten best places I've found for pictures (in no particular order) - and examples from each! You know a couple is extra special when they agree to meet you at 6am just for the good light! Taalib and Ellica are a couple I've come to know over the last few months, and I am so grateful for it. When we finally met in person a few months ago in a small coffee shop outside of Washington, DC, I could see in a few short minutes how much they care about each other.

And then on the small, grassy beach of Norfolk during their engagement session, their love truly shined through. Taalib is absolutely crazy about Ellica, and she can't help but smile, laugh, and enjoy being in love. From the tender way he looked at her to her contagious laughter at his jokes, these two were a treasure. And this all at sunrise!

I'm so thankful that I've gotten to meet these two, and that they were good enough sports to get up early for a gorgeous engagement session. I am so excited about their October wedding, and can't wait to see how their relationship has grown by then.
