Engagement Session in Downtown Williamsburg | Derek + Victoria

Engagement Session in Downtown Williamsburg | Derek + Victoria

It was a long trip for Derek and Victoria, but they drove all the way down from northern Virginia to Williamsburg, a city incredibly sentimental to her, so we could spend time capturing what life looks like before they get married in August. If there’s anything I learned about these two while they were together, it’s that they can so easily make each other laugh. And if there’s anything I’ve learned about marriage in over 8 years, is that laughing with your spouse is the best way to work through conflict and remember again why you fell in love.

Downtown Williamsburg is beautiful, with brick buildings and hidden gardens almost everywhere. The area was full of people, so we got to explore some roads I’ve never visited and chase the golden sunset light. Victoria’s flowy dress and sweet flower comb were the perfect complement to the blooms that are taking over Williamsburg. As spring melts into summer and their wedding inches closer, Derek and Victoria are excited to be together - and even more excited to say their I do’s…

Sunset Williamsburg Engagement Session | John + Lauren

Sunset Williamsburg Engagement Session | John + Lauren

Summer is definitely my favorite time of year, but there’s something about the golden light of winter that makes me LOVE chilly engagement session days. For John and Lauren, Williamsburg was the perfect place to celebrate their upcoming marriage - they are both Christmas-obsessed, and the whole area is decorated to the nines! Wreaths on the doors, bows on the streetlights, and Christmas trees along the path…even though it was the last day of November, it felt like Christmas Eve and got me so excited for the month ahead.

As I spent time with them, I noticed that they both have the best smiles - hers is a light-up the face, all-over kind of a smile, whereas his is quiet and reserved mostly for his bride to be. They are gracious and kind, both with each other and with everyone around them, which was easy to notice as we walked along the streets and interacted with everyone visiting Colonial Williamsburg to take advantage of all the beauty…

Colonial Williamsburg Proposal | Williamsburg Engagement Pictures | Giff + Taylor

I can very vividly remember the day Nathan proposed to me. I was expecting it to happen at some point, but I didn't know when. The moment he got down on one knee I was overcome with emotion and started crying so hard I forgot to say yes for several minutes. This was over 7 years ago, before hiring a photographer for the proposal was normal, and yet he had done just that and our emotions were captured forever. I'm so grateful it's a day I can always look back on through memories and pictures that we have.

Because of this, I was incredibly excited when Giff and I started talking about photographing his upcoming proposal. He and his girlfriend Taylor live in South Carolina but were taking a trip up the East Coast to visit family and have a fun vacation. Her favorite place in the world is Colonial Williamsburg, so he knew he had to propose in front of one of the best spots there - the Governor's Mansion...
