Features + Embarrassment: The Tidewater and Tulle Journal | Business

A few weeks ago I shared on social media that I had my second ever print feature (click here to see my first one) in the inaugural edition of the Tidewater and Tulle Journal. It was a hugely exciting day for me (and this amazing wedding blog!) and I was so proud to shout it from the rooftops. The reality, however, is a little different, so while I want you to share in the excitement of this moment, I also want to peel back the layers for a more behind-the-scenes look at what actually happens to get to a wedding feature.

I submit nearly every single wedding I photograph - some to national publications, some to local, and some to both...and honestly, the success is varied. I wrote about how often the features depend more on seasons and trends than the beauty of a wedding or its photography, and so it's somewhat rare to get featured on my first submission. For this particular wedding, I just knew I could find somewhere HUGE for it, so I submitted with great confidence and hope to a national wedding blog...

Southern Living + Other Recent Features | Business

During my trip to Africa a few weeks ago, I remained as present as possible by continuing business 'as normal' so I would be focused on what I was doing and not what I had to post. While I was there I received email after email about new features for weddings and more! Since I could not share them all - and there were so many! - I now want to highlight each one of them because I am so grateful that other websites and blogs choose to share my work! I feel like I need to say, "welcome back" to myself! I just returned from a whirlwind 10-day trip to West Africa. I'll write plenty more on that later, but today I have a brief but exciting announcement to make.

One thing I have realized through photography is that I love more than just taking pictures. By writing on this blog and sharing my heart, I have seen how much I love writing. I kind of took it for granted that it came easily to me, but I know that one of the skills God has given me is writing in this little blogspace for the time being.
