At any engagement session and on every wedding day, there are things that make it into pictures and things that will never be captured on camera. Both intertwine to form a memory and, when they're done well, the photographs are a reminder of what you can't see as much as what you can. In light of that fact, I never want to forget all the things from Troy and Jenna's engagement session that were NOT photographed - but are as unforgettable as the pictures themselvesβ¦

Monument Avenue Fall Engagement Session | Richmond Wedding Photographer | Justin + Tori
I absolutely love it when a couple has fun together during their engagement session, and for Justin and Tori that was exactly what happened! These two could not stop smiling, giggling, and laughing the entire afternoon. Whether in front of the gorgeous fall trees on Monument Avenue or sipping coffee at Black Hand Coffee Co. along a side street, their joy at being together bubbled over during every minute.
These two have traveled the world and love planning when their next adventure is going to happen. Both have lived overseas for a little bit of time, so I was astonished when I heard their honeymoon plans - they want to travel around Europe, visiting some of the people who they came to know and love when they were in Austria and Spain. To know a couple selfless enough to think of others on their honeymoon is an amazing thing...
Monument Avenue Engagement Session | Richmond Wedding Photographer | Josh + Kayla
Josh and Kayla are amazing because more than anyone I know they are true to themselves - no matter how crazy or awkward or hilarious they may be. They bonded over their mutual love for cats, developed a shared favorite hockey team in the Pittsburg Penguins, and grew closer each day since. When we spent the evening going all over Richmond in the hunt for murals, ending at the beautiful Monument Avenue, I couldn't help but wish over and again that I could record what they were saying to make each other laugh - because Nathan and I could not stop cracking up, either!
The part I loved most as we spent time together, though, was seeing the little in-between moments the two shared. They may have joked about pretending to like each other or made goofy faces to lighten the moment, but underneath all the laughter and fun it was so obvious that Josh and Kayla are made for each other. She is chatty and ridiculous, and he is steady and caring. And as parents to three cats (with more to come I'm sure) with many years behind them, they know what commitment looks and live it out each day...
