Engagement Session in Downtown Williamsburg | Derek + Victoria

Engagement Session in Downtown Williamsburg | Derek + Victoria

It was a long trip for Derek and Victoria, but they drove all the way down from northern Virginia to Williamsburg, a city incredibly sentimental to her, so we could spend time capturing what life looks like before they get married in August. If there’s anything I learned about these two while they were together, it’s that they can so easily make each other laugh. And if there’s anything I’ve learned about marriage in over 8 years, is that laughing with your spouse is the best way to work through conflict and remember again why you fell in love.

Downtown Williamsburg is beautiful, with brick buildings and hidden gardens almost everywhere. The area was full of people, so we got to explore some roads I’ve never visited and chase the golden sunset light. Heath and Kate are both in the middle of huge transitions in their lives. Kate is moving, they have begun new careers, and of course, they are now planning both the wedding day and their marriage. One of the most important elements of staying sane during such big changes is maintaining a good sense of humor, and these two have done just that. Colonial Williamsburg is the place in Hampton Roads most reminiscent of Charleston, the city they now both call home where they will be married in March. The fall colors were gorgeous, the plantation-style houses were elegant, and the sun set behind the trees in a beautiful way. It was the perfect time and the perfect place for Heath and Kate to celebrate their engagement and all that is to come. To say they are excited to begin their lives together is an understatement - can you tell by the smiles on their faces?! - and I know that day, and for many years to come, laughter and joy will be a huge part of their relationship...
