Indian-Spiced Guacamole | Foodie Friday

Hello and welcome to another edition of Foodie Friday! Last weekend was the Super Bowl and I used it as an excuse to make something creative and photograph it - then taste test it, of course, before anyone came over. Every year we make a big deal out of the Big Game, and our families usually come together to half-watch and half-chat the whole way through.

Because we have such a variety of people, I try not to stray too far away from the staples - chips and guac, salsa, chili, salads, and something sweet. My challenge this year was to keep it as Paleo as possible without anyone noticing, and I'm proud to say I achieved my goal. My brother told me at the end of the party that he had never eaten so much snack food and felt so good about it afterwards. Mission accomplished!

5 Must-Have Items for Conquering a Whole30 | Foodie Friday

Some of you may know that I'm in the middle of my second Whole30 - a food journey that involves cutting out all gluten (I'm gluten-free anyways), dairy, legumes (including peanut butter!), soy, grains, alcohol, and a few other additives. When I first completed the Whole30 (see more of that adventure here!) two years ago in January, we found out that Nathan cannot eat gluten (and thus, I quit as well) and dairy bothers my stomach a whole lot!

I never intended on starting another one, but when December came around I found myself itching to try it again. I wanted to see how far away I had gotten from the way of eating I had learned the first time, and I knew that my cravings for Coke Zero were starting to get out of control. For the most part we are pretty much 'clean eating' people, but an occasional soda had turned into a treat more than once per week, and I wanted to get it under control.

The second time around has been completely different, and it has honestly felt like a breeze...

Nutpods, Daily Harvest, + My Morning Routine | Foodie Fridays

I've talked before about my normal morning routine - up at 5:15am, visiting the gym, reading my Bible, then getting the work day started - but I've never mentioned one of the most important parts of starting off my day right: BREAKFAST. I am not one of those people who is able to skip breakfast at will. If I don't wake up hungry I will be soon, and as soon as I get back from working out I start in on making something yummy to kick off the morning.

The problem is, I often get stuck in a rut. It's not hard for me to make the same smoothie every single day of the week. While I don't think there's anything wrong with this (after all, it's healthy and I love it!) I've been wanting to change things up a bit. After I was gifted a little extra from a job I finished, I splurged on a couple breakfast treats and signed up for a week of Daily Harvest smoothies...
