How to Get the Best Engagement Photos in Hampton Roads

How to Get the Best Engagement Photos in Hampton Roads

Being engaged is one of the sweetest, most important times in your life. Never again will you be in the season of almost-but-not-yet in your relationship. It’s the promise of things to come and the joy of knowing what’s already behind you - the good, the difficult, and everything in between. Your engagement photos should reflect what is unique to you as a couple. They should show how you interact during both laughter and more serious times.

Because of this, planning your engagement photos, whether in Hampton Roads or somewhere entirely different, is so important! Making plans before you ever arrive at your engagement session is one of the best ways to ensure it will go smoothly and allow you to walk away with beautiful pictures to remember this season of your life forever.

To help you plan, here are a few of my top tips about how to get the best engagement photos in Hampton Roads!

Two Rivers Country Club Wedding | Josh + Lauren

Two Rivers Country Club Wedding | Josh + Lauren

We heard their story over and over, told in so many different ways, each a reminder of how amazing it really is that Josh and Lauren met each other. She lived in Hampton Roads and decided to take a job at Water Country USA, while he lived in the UK…and decided to visit a little town called Williamsburg for a summer at a water-themed amusement park. He couldn’t have predicted that his supervisor would, 5 years later, become his wife.

They have traveled the world together, spanning oceans and continents, but both said in their impromptu speeches that each location felt like home because they were with each other. Their wedding was a beautiful blend of customs from their background and the Jewish wedding traditions that made this day unlike any other. From signing a ketubah to adorning her parents with flower crowns at the reception, each event was filled with joy and a lot of VERY excited people.

Set right on the James River outside of Williamsburg, weddings at Two Rivers Country Club are always stunning. Lauren chose the perfect rose gold details (rings and bridesmaid dresses and table numbers), and her cascading white lily bouquet was gorgeous. It amazed me that about half of the wedding guests came all the way from England to be at their special day, and most of the other half has traveled there to meet Josh! The dedication from the couple to their family and friends, and vise versa, was evident in every moment, and Lauren’s joy was all over her face from start to finish…

Engagement Session in Downtown Williamsburg | Derek + Victoria

Engagement Session in Downtown Williamsburg | Derek + Victoria

It was a long trip for Derek and Victoria, but they drove all the way down from northern Virginia to Williamsburg, a city incredibly sentimental to her, so we could spend time capturing what life looks like before they get married in August. If there’s anything I learned about these two while they were together, it’s that they can so easily make each other laugh. And if there’s anything I’ve learned about marriage in over 8 years, is that laughing with your spouse is the best way to work through conflict and remember again why you fell in love.

Downtown Williamsburg is beautiful, with brick buildings and hidden gardens almost everywhere. The area was full of people, so we got to explore some roads I’ve never visited and chase the golden sunset light. Victoria’s flowy dress and sweet flower comb were the perfect complement to the blooms that are taking over Williamsburg. As spring melts into summer and their wedding inches closer, Derek and Victoria are excited to be together - and even more excited to say their I do’s…
